Play...pause...repeat. Cass Lake, MN

Cass Lake, MN

Today was very much like yesterday. Great weather, lots of fish, relaxing afternoon. We started out fishing again in Pike Bay, and caught 31 fish (one more than yesterday)- 20 perch and 11 rock bass. Dealing with 5 lines in the boat (Tom, Seth, Maddie, Chloe & me) can make things interesting at times, but it does help bring in the fish! Maddie proved herself to be a true fisher-girl as she caught a few keepers AND took a couple of fish off the hooks! She has yet to bait her hook with a live minnow, but I'm sure she'll come around on that one in time. She also learned that on a breezy day, one needs to hold onto one's hat when the boat is moving.

Although it was a bit more windy today, the weather was still gorgeous! The kids enjoyed some swimming and tubing (behind Paul's boat) in the afternoon and Jared spent three hours of his day kayaking to Star Island and back. Leah and Chloe again enjoyed spending some time hanging out with their new friends Andrea and Tom.

Tom (that is, my Mr., not the young one and not the teenage one) again spent his afternoon cleaning fish, but was able to slip in a little (17 mile) bike ride before we headed out for dinner. One of our traditions has become taking the whole family out to Ruttger's Birchmont Lodge on Lake Bemidji. We enjoy eating out on the patio overlooking the lake, and always end up laughing about something. This year it was banana slicer reviews that had us all cracking up (you have to look these up at Amazon, if you haven't read them yet). This year at dinner we had a nice surprise in that we were greeted by Ruttger's new manager, Carrie. She had been the previous owner at Birch Villa Resort, and we hadn't seen her in a couple of years, so it was great to catch up on things with her, and to have her wait on our table with extra-special service!

We were thinking about stopping on the way home to say "hi" to Paul Bunyan and Babe, but there was a carnival going on in the park, and we couldn't even see them behind all of the rides. So we headed home, making a quick stop at Teal's Market for some ice cream. We then sat by the fire and chatted with Paul, Melissa, and Tommy. Thus ends another day at Cass Lake.
