Pedals, puppy and pizza
Since I was the only one in our cabin who went fishing every day from Monday through Friday, I announced that I was sleeping in and taking the "day off" on Saturday. Tom, Phyllis and Dad went out and decided to try their luck around the Potato Islands and Allen's Bay. Luck? Not so much. Dad caught a small northern pike and a rock bass. I was glad to have had the morning off and spent some time getting Mom & Dad's things together so they could move down to their own cabin in the afternoon.
By mid-afternoon, everyone was ready for a bike ride, so Chloe, Phyllis and I brought our bikes to the campground on the south side of Pike Bay. They wanted to try the Migizi trail, but weren't quite ready for the whole loop, so we rode 3-4 miles in, turned around and rode back. In the meantime, Tom & Jared took off on the Heartland Trail toward Walker (24 miles). The plan was to meet up there for supper. Since Seth and Maddie, as well as Beth & Bill and their gang were on their way north, we were able to time it so we all met up around 5:30 in Walker.
At Beth & Bill's suggestion, we met at a new (to us) place called "Benson's." It's not really new at all, but has been there for years, and has a good reputation. Beth & Bill's family arrived after our chaotic attempt to get everyone seated in roughly the same section of the restaurant, and no sooner had we all sat down, then they walked in and said we should all come outside...they had a surprise for us. We went outside to the restaurant's patio area to find Nicole, William, Elise and Zach holding a brand new puppy!! They had picked up an adorable little Olde English Bulldog in St. Paul on their way through the twin cities. We were all enamored with the little cutie, and over dinner we discussed at length what the little girl should be named.
We all agreed "Benson's" was a great family restaurant as they managed to handle a crazy bunch like ours as well as a puppy, and had good pizza to boot!
