Fruitbasket Upset
Saturday, 7/7/18 When I was younger we played a game called "Fruitbasket Upset," in which everyone would sit in a circle in chairs and when someone yelled "fruitbasket upset!" we would all get up and run around looking for a different seat in which to plant ourselves. Today was kind of like that.
First there were the "good-byes." Some of our Minnesota friends, and many of our family members left today. Bill loaded up his car with several young adults and teens who needed to get back home to work: William, Nicole, our Leah, and Leah G. We also said good-bye to Barb and Fred who were beginning a road trip to California and back. Sandra and Jeremy and their kids (Luke, Joel and Lydia) were heading home, as were Melissa's parents, Barb and Tom. By 9:00 a.m., the camp was quiet with so many vacant cabins.
Then there were the moves. We moved Mom and Dad's things down to their cabin at Sah-Kah-Tay (the resort next door), where they will be spending their second week. Beth moved her things in with them as she will be helping them out over the next week. And Elise and Zach moved their things in with us. We also made room for Seth and Maddie who arrived later in the afternoon, bringing our cabin's occupancy up from six last week to seven this week!
After we finished some of the moving, Tom & I went out fishing with Dad in his boat. We started out toward Pike Bay, but when we saw how rough it was, we turned around and headed back to Cass Lake. We fished for a couple of hours and were only able to find two 8" perch...not much to show for!
The afternoon was spent planning out meals with Beth, taking a short kayak ride (it was really rough so not too relaxing as we paddled home against the wind), and reading. Tom took a bike ride, while the kids played games and watched movies in our cool, air-conditioned cabin, escaping the 85-90 degree heat outside.
Tom and I decided it was a good night for our "date night" as we needed to make a grocery run to Bemidji anyway. We searched "Yelp" and found a new restaurant we wanted to try called Turtle River Chop House. It was great! With its classy sports bar atmosphere, Filipino egg rolls, and delicious entrees, we gave it 5 stars, and hope to return someday to try some of the other tempting menu options.
