Last day, busy day
For our last day of fishing we decided to rent a boat from Birch Villa again. Tom, Seth, Maddie and I started by the Tin Cans where we caught 7 perch. We then moved through the channel and under the bridge to Pike Bay, and added 3 more perch, 7 rock bass, 6 crappie (a record number for us in this lake!), and 1 bluegill, for a total of 24 fish. With the larger fillets, this will fill up our freezer nicely! All of the other family boats (Dad, Beth and Zach; Paul and Melissa and kids; and Deb, Roy and Kara) were fishing near us on this last beautiful morning on the lake. To top it off, we even managed to befriend a huge dragonfly to add our morning's entertainment!
Since we had gotten an earlier start, we quit by 12:30 and were back home by 1:00 so we could start getting ready to go home. Tom and Seth spent the afternoon cleaning fish, while Chloe, Maddie and I worked on packing things up in the cabin. Several guys helped Dad get his boat out of the water. Sadly, this will probably be the last time we do this, as Dad is planning to sell his boat (anyone looking to buy one?). At age 84, we've convinced him that it's just a little too much for him to handle, and we'll be happy to take him along in our boat next year!
Later in the afternoon, the kids did some tubing, had some ice cream at the lodge, and worked on laundry for us, while we settled up with Tony and made our reservation for next year. Tom took his final bike ride on the Migizi, and Beth and I had a lovely kayak ride on the calm lake.
Rather than hassle with making a meal in the cabin, we decided to go out for our last evening. We didn't want to go far, and discovered Sunset Cove Resort (about 5 minutes away) had a nice little restaurant. It was conveniently close and the sunset was nice, but we weren't impressed with the slow service and mix-up on the kids' pizza order (first forgotten, then burned, then replaced...at least they didn't charge us for it!). Back at the resort we finished packing up and got ready to leave bright and early in the morning.
