Minnesota Trekking

I’m tired but want to make sure I jot down my notes for today’s lake log.

This is the sixth day out of the past seven that I’ve trekked 10,000 steps! (The one day I missed I took a 10-mile bike ride instead). But my feet hurt and my legs and back are tired. Ah well…10,000 baby steps at a time.

Today was a little nicer weather than yesterday. Even though it was cloudy and cool all day, there was no rain and the cooler temps were refreshing after the hot days last weekend and early this week.

Seth, Maddie, Tom, and I went out fishing a little later this morning (around 10:00). We fished between the Potato Islands and pulled in a catch of 15 (3 rock bass and 12 perch).

Other amusements today included playing “Trekking the National Parks” with Beth, Elise, Seth, Chloe and me; taking Ollie for a long stroller ride trek with Chloe, reading books, filleting fish (Tom), tacos for supper, and general relaxation. Oh, and Tom, Seth, and I each bought a new Birch Villa shirt over at the lodge.

In the evening, I completed my 10,000 steps with another short trek around the resort/trailer park next door (Cass Lake Lodge). After some blogging time, I joined several others around a campfire outside Beth & Bill’s cabin. The cooler weather makes for great campfire nights and William and Zach kept us entertained by “roasting” a marshmallow with a sparkler and adding “mystical powder” to the fire.

Leah has had a very stuffy nose and sore throat, which she thinks might be allergies (something she hasn’t had before). Just to be on the safe side, she went into Bemidji for a COVID test. Even though she’s been vaccinated, we felt it would give us all peace of mind to know her stuffy head is allergies or a cold and not COVID. We’ll know for sure in a couple of days. In the meantime, after her test, she and Nicole hit up a few fun shops in Bemidji. (Thursday update: Her test was negative. It seems she has a common cold, which is a bummer when you’re on vacation. But better than COVID!)
