Cass Lake...where Eagles Soar!
Cass Lake...where Eagles Soar! Cass Lake, MN
Cass Lake, MN
We somehow managed to drag all three kids (Jared, Leah & Chloe) out of bed this morning to go fishing. We opted for our favorite spot...Pike Bay. After ducking under the bridges, and floating through the channel, we pulled into the lake. As I scanned the water for my mom and dad's boat, my eyes were drawn to a branch just off the shore. I made Tom go over and check it out, and we were all excited to find two Eagles sitting side by side. We were able to get so close, and once again, were in awe of these magnificent birds.
We found our fishing hole, and soon Mom and Dad joined us there. We had a great time filling our live well with perch and rock bass...16 in all. As usually happens, the kids tire out before we do, and started putting their poles away and asking to go back to the resort. Tom and I both had bait (minnows) on our lines, so we said they had to wait until we lost them. Within minutes, I had a very nice tug, and could tell this catch was not a pan fish. Tom got the net and landed my first (and probably last) walleye of the year. It was a nice-sized one too (17 inches), and a great way to end our morning.
The weather was beautiful for another afternoon of kayaking (Linda & Deb), biking (Tom), golfing (Mom & Dad), and lazing around the resort (the kids). By early evening, Tom, Dad & I hit the lake again for another shot at fishing. The wind was calm and the sunset beautiful from Strawberry Bar. We didn't have a lot of excitement, but were content with the 4 nice perch we ended up with.
Dinner was late...about 10:00 p.m. I taught Jared how to fry fish, as he wants to make a fish dinner for his roommates when he gets back home. We all loved the "melt-in-your-mouth" freshness of our dinner before calling it a day.
