"Walker Day"
There is bound to be at least one rainy, yucky day during our two-week stay, and this year was no exception. The women in the group really don’t mind…we make the best of it and plan on making it our “Walker Day.” When we examined the forecast on Sunday, we all agreed Wednesday would be “Walker Day.”
Our morning started out with the rare treat of a bald eagle perched in the top of a pine tree right outside our cabin. He stayed there for at least a 1/2 hour so we could all watch him and take a few close-ups. After breakfast we embarked on a wet, soggy fishing trip to the shore of Star Island. It was mostly drizzling, but with occasional light rain showers as well. Despite the weather, Maddie was able to catch her first walleye (a 12” one), and I followed up with another (13”). We added three perch to the catch and called it a morning. Not much to show for, but enough for a rainy, yucky day.
By early afternoon, several of us piled in two cars and drove down to Walker where we enjoyed shopping for kitchen gadgets, wild rice, Highlander Grogg coffee, unique and Minnesota clothing, and other fun, “gifty” things. Deb and her girls, as well as Melissa had already started shopping in the morning, but we were able to touch base with them off and on in our favorite shops. Jared had also come with us so he could sit at the Walker Coffee Co. while doing some things online. A third carload of guys drove down an hour or so before the stores closed so they could pick up miscellaneous fishing gear at Reeds and do a little browsing themselves.
After closing down the shops at 5:30, our family, Bill & Beth’s family, and Phyllis moved on to Zorbaz’…an annual pizza tradition for our gang.
It wasn’t a terribly exciting day at the lake, but it’s all good when it’s “Walker Day.”
